My name is Shawn Douglas. I'm 36 years old, and I just returned to Saint
Louis, MO in September 2011 after spending yet another summer teaching English in Spain. In all I've
had the pleasure of teaching in Spain for two years and two additional summers, encountering people from all walks
of life, of all ages, and in many diverse locations. Whether it was a
six-year old boy in the home, a group of twenty-something-year old women in a major oil company,
a group of forty-something-year old men in the Spanish military, (or even numerous groups of over
one-hundred and sixty children at a summer camp) I derived immense pleasure in teaching and tutoring.
Before that, I spent five years working at a competitive health insurance company in Saint Louis, MO.
During that time, I enjoyed the opportunity I had doing a wide variety of things including managing
and editing provider data, proofreading provider directories, creating training documentation, and
teaching new employees. These experiences definitely allowed me the opportunity to become a better
writer, editor, and teacher.
Aside from these experiences, I've also managed a small office, developed web content,
performed secretarial work, and wrote poetry. I had the opportunity to focus in
detail on tasks such as writing internal and external correspondence, creating and editing Web code
and online content, and teaching clients new ways to be more efficient. Additionally, I've been writing
poetry since I was in grade school and have even had some of it published. In all cases,
writing, editing, and/or teaching were inherently involved.
I've since been working on a diverse range of freelance writing and editing projects for
companies and individuals. Most recently I've written online content for AOL Travel, a major moving company, a
technology and education website, and a blog about the Internet and education. I've also written and edited wiki content,
Web copy, newsletters, promotional material, and other types of online material. I even recently taught English for another
summer at an English camp in Spain.
