My name is Shawn Douglas. I'm 34 years old, and I returned to Saint
Louis, MO in September 2009 after spending two years teaching English in Spain. I had the pleasure
to teach people from all walks of life, of all ages, and in many diverse locations. Whether it was a
six-year old boy in the home, a group of twenty-something-year old women in a major oil company,
a group of forty-something-year old men in the Spanish military, or even a group of over
one-hundred children at a summer camp, I derived immense pleasure in teaching and tutoring.
Before that, I spent five years working at a competitive health insurance company in Saint Louis, MO.
During that time, I enjoyed the opportunity I had doing a wide variety of things including managing
and editing provider data, proofreading provider directories, creating training documentation, and
teaching new employees. These experiences definitely allowed me the opportunity to become a better
writer, editor, and teacher.
Aside from these experiences, I've also managed a small office, developed Web content,
performed secretarial work, and wrote poetry. I had the opportunity to focus in
detail on tasks such as writing internal and external correspondence, create and edit Web code
and online content, and teach clients new ways to be efficient. Additionally, I've been writing
poetry since I was in grade school and have even had some of it published. In all cases,
writing, editing, and/or teaching were inherently involved.
I've since been working on a diverse range of freelance writing and editing projects for
companies and individuals. Currently I'm editing content for an online entity that publishes content
for the surfing community, writing Web content for a variety of clients, and preparing to return
to Spain to teach at a summer camp in 2010.
